What factors should I consider when choosing an LED display solution?

Here are some important considerations to keep in mind when choosing an LED display solution: the environment, required pixel pitch/ viewing distance, component grades, processing, and installation methodology. We have created a helpful guide that discusses these factors, which you can view here.

Additionally, you can have a free consultation with a member of our team who can assist you in exploring all of your options. Feel free to reach out and schedule a consultation to discuss your specific needs and requirements. We are here to help!

Can LED displays be used outdoors?

Not all LED products are suitable for outdoor use. If you plan to install an outdoor LED display, the product needs to have a minimum IP65 rating.

In more extreme weather conditions, such as extreme heat, proximity to saltwater, or high humidity, specialised products may be recommended. Therefore, it is important to discuss the environment where your display will be placed during your consultation.

SPORTS SECTOR FAQs

Are all LED displays waterproof?

Not all LED products are suitable for outdoor use. When it comes to pitchside LED screens such as scoreboards or perimeters, the product should have a minimum IP rating of IP65 or IP67.

Our Impakt and Dura LED products are designed specifically for outdoor use, and are also impact resistant.

Are LED displays sustainable?

LED displays are becoming a popular choice for sports venues around the world. They offer benefits such as customised branding, additional advertising opportunities, and an enhanced fan experience. LED displays also help your club act more environmentally friendly.

Waste: Unlike traditional static boards that often need to be replaced annually for various reasons like changing sponsors or rebranding, LED displays only require content updates. This significantly reduces waste. LED displays also have a longer lifespan than LCD TVs.

Energy Efficiency: Bendac LED displays are equipped with light sensors to optimise power usage. Unlike LCD displays that consume some energy even when turned off (standby power), LED displays consume very little energy when not in use. This makes LED displays an excellent choice for businesses aiming to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Technology: With advancements in the AV industry, LED displays are becoming more energy efficient. Our Impakt LED perimeter display is one of the most power-efficient options available in the market today.

Can you finance LED displays?

Yes! We can provide finance options for your LED display solution allowing you to break down the cost of investment into manageable monthly payments.

How many sides of LED perimeter should you have?

The easy answer is, 1, 2, 3 or 4! Most clubs adding LED perimeter for the first time tend to start with a 1 sided display (usually camera facing side). This allows you to immediately start generating more revenue from enhanced digital sponsorship and advertising.

You can then choose to upgrade your system to more sides at anytime.

What infrastructure is needed for an LED display?

At Bendac we will complete a free site survey to assess the required infrastructure. Some considerations will be: framework – do you need something new, or can we modify existing framework, possible groundworks, how/where are we going to fix the product, will additional power or data need to be run underground.

You won’t need to worry about knowing the answers to all of these things! Our expert team are on hand to discuss all of the possibilities.

How do I get compatible content for LED displays?

Depending on what league your team plays in, the amount of TV coverage, and the stadium capacity, the seasonal cost for 1 minute of advertising per game on a camera facing LED perimeter can range from £1,000 to £15,000.

Clubs who invest into LED displays stand to make a serious ROI if they are strategic about how they sell their advertising an sponsorship opportunities.

What hardware do I need to run an LED display?

You will typically need a software / hardware package which has a powerful graphics card with multiple outputs (normally 4). Then a software system (we often use InCrowd) which can manage all of your content and ads in various sizes, allowing flexibility for club advertisers.

VIRTUAL PRODUCTION FAQs

What type of LED tile is best in virtual production?

Choosing the right LED tile is crucial. You should consider a tile that offers the following features: high colour gamut reproduction, a high refresh rate (minimum of 7,680), a low scan ratio (between 1/12 and 1/8), a minimum brightness output of 1,000 nits, and a good contrast ratio (between 6000 and 8000 : 1).

Both of Bendac’s LED VP tiles have been designed to meet (and exceed in cases) all of these requirements. The ProStudio is perfect for corporates and enterprises looking to build a VP studio, and the ProCine is the ultimate VP tile designed for cinematic studios.

How much does it cost to build a virtual production studio?

The answer to this depends where you start. Let’s base this off of a studio solution with a 8x4m LED wall. If you want to build a 2D only (plate video/photography) LED VP system, it would be approximately £350,000. For a fully tracked, 3D, Unreal, LED VP system it would be between £500,000 – £600,000.

It’s important to remember that LED VP studios are highly customisable, so if you are working within a budget, we can make recommendations to create a solution that works for you.

What are the key components I need?

Your basics will be an LED wall, LED processor, content server and camera. Then if you want to introduce 2.5D or 3D, you will need camera tracking and a lighting system.

What training will my team need?

To successfully operate your studio, you will need some general virtual production training along with craft training. Don’t worry! Our complete LED VP solutions include all the necessary training to ensure you are fully equipped to run your studio. We are here to support you every step of the way!

What additional services do you provide?

At Bendac, we are dedicated to providing you with a comprehensive solution for all your LED display needs. Our team offers a complete range of services, including consultancy, seamless design system integration, expert commissioning, precise colour calibration, reliable system support, and thorough training. We are here to assist you every step of the way, ensuring that your LED display experience is enjoyable and successful.

Who do we need to run a virtual production studio?

You will need a VP Supervisor to run the stage, and an Unreal expert to create/manage the content (only for 2.5D & 3d.) Overall, someone who understands studio lighting, visual effects, and video production.

Does it matter how big the LED wall is?

There are a huge range of options when choosing the size of your LED VP studio. For corporates and enterprises who might have limited height available in their chosen space, (usually 2.7m), you would be able to work from a studio which is 2.5m high, and 3m wide. A popular size is 8m wide x 4m high.

The current largest LED volume is 88m wide x 12m high – so anything is possible!

What kind of camera do I need?

Any professional camera could be suitable. Our recommendation is 4k sensor minimum, but 6k is better! The camera will need to be genlocked. Also, a global shutter camera is better than a rolling shutter camera – though lots of studios do successfully use rolling shutter.

Do I need to use Unreal Engine?

You only need to use Unreal Engine if you have a tracked 2.5D or 3D LED VP studio. If you have a 2D LED VP studio, you can use any kind of video or photo backdrop.
